My time in Rome, Italy

Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Kayle Waterhouse. I am writing from Rome, Italy where I am interning at a small company in the historic Cinecitta Studios called Cinebooking. I am working alongside the founder of the company, Gianfranco De Rosa, helping translate the company’s information into English as we expand to other countries in Europe and North America. In addition, my boss is preparing me for a job opportunity on a film set during the month of July.

Here is the Cinecitta Cafe

During the day I get to walk around and see the exciting events that are happening within Cinecitta. There are films and film sets that are shot and built just outside my building. Below are some photos of the different sets around the complex.

Cinecitta Studios is filled with all the different departments that help create a film set – Grip department, lighting, costumes, digital factory, etc. I was lucky to be able to explore the Grip Department with my boss.

Here is me in the equipment warehouse

Over the past four weeks I have helped translate the information into English on Cinebooking’s APP and its online website. I have conducted a lot of research on who to contact for further investments in the company. In addition, I have collaborated with my boss on how to best create a documentary that is mutually beneficial for my project and for the company. The experience of using the camera and other portable equipment will expand my understanding on how to interview, communicate and organize an independent film project.

Cinecitta studios is located just outside the center of Rome. I am living in an apartment within walking distance to my work and to the subway for a short 20 minute ride into the center of Rome. Just one block away is a beautiful park called Appio Claudio, which are the two photos below. The park is filled with ruins and beautiful sights.

Like I said, I am only a 20 minute subway ride into Rome. Over the weekends I am able to go into the city to walk around and see some beautiful sites. I even have another CISLA buddy close by – we have already met up twice since being in Rome.

I am excited to keep exploring and improving my language comprehension over the next month!
